Individualized scaffolding support is needed for both students and teachers when they are engaging with virtual problem-based learning (PBL) activities. This study introduces a learning analytics (LA) scaffolding system that could provide individualized scaffolding messages when they are solving the problem. The empirical findings revealed that students who received the LA scaffolding system had significantly higher problem-solving self-efficacy compared to their peers in the control group. The interviews with students provided signs about the reasons for improvement. Moreover, the interviews with teachers revealed that the LA scaffolding system also helped them in classroom management and provided individual instructions when they were facilitating virtual PBL activities.
