Peer relationships have been identified as contributing to students’ academic performance and social-emotional wellbeing, yet there remains a dearth of research which demonstrates how educators can facilitate healthy peer relationships and how young people perceive these efforts. To fill this gap, this multi-phase case study provides insights regarding peer relationships in two secondary schools. Findings illustrate how collaborative and cooperative relationships among educators served as a model for youth who reported a lack of bullying and hierarchy. The positive peer relationships found at each school were reinforced by programs and policies which emphasized mentoring and leadership. Lastly, educators ensured that students were offered opportunities to interact with different peers by reducing academic tracking and providing extracurricular options for all students.
