The purpose of the study is to characterize the participation of students working in groups identifying barriers to equitable and reciprocal participation. The design integrates evidence from studies from different fields to observe participation from an enriched perspective, integrating social factors and others that arise in interactions. Qualitative study, based on video recording data, analyzes interactions of 9 groups of students (6 to 14 years old) solving mathematical tasks in authentic classroom situations. The preliminary findings show that barriers to equitable and reciprocal participation operate at the individual level throuh disempowering some students, but also have consequences for the reciprocity of the whole group.
