Big Ideas and Beyond: ePortfolios as Evidence of Learning in a Caribbean Master's of Education Program

Mon, April 25, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The M.Ed. program at St. George’s University in Grenada is guided by six program-level big ideas: power, equity, agency, identity, inquiry, and collaboration. These big ideas are connecting threads across all courses in the program. We recently graduated our first cohort, and used ePortfolios as evidence of student learning in the program in order to inform our practice and program design moving forward. We used the students’ ePortfolios to understand student learning in relation to each of the big ideas, but soon realized the ePortfolios offered powerful evidence of learning that extends beyond those six big ideas. We invited the students into our inquiry process, and this paper is the result of the collaborative inquiry process with our students.
