An Implementation Evaluation of a School-Based Diversion Program (Poster 18)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the implementation of one school-based diversion program during COVID-19. We hypothesized that the following program elements were the key mechanisms that accounted for the program’s success during COVID-19: Case management, mentoring, restorative circles, and school support. A case study design with the program as the unit of analysis was used to situate the program in its context and to uncover the program’s processes. Through interviews with staff, volunteers, and youth, we found that case management was the most prominent mechanism helping to explain the program’s success with its youth. The implementation of mentoring and educational support was mixed, while the implementation of the restorative circles tapered off throughout the school year.
