Investigating the Impact of Pedagogical Agent and Feedback Style on Learning Outcome and Information Processing (Poster 4)

Abstract

This study sought to realize if the presence of the pedagogical agent (PA) and feedback message style (question vs. summary) in learning materials affected students’ learning outcome and information processing (eye movements) patterns in multimedia environments. A 2X2 between group research design was utilized to attain the research purposes. An eye-tracker was used to collect viewers’ eye movement patterns. Meanwhile, a lag sequential analysis (LSA) was utilized on the eye movement data to realize viewers’ information processing patterns. The results showed that the question style feedback attracted viewers’ attention on the materials and le to better understanding. The PA redirected viewer’s attention toward the feedback and led to the picture-text transition of inspections.
