Abstract

Amidst distance learning and the effects of COVID-19, the magnitude of the current inequities (Ladson-Billings, 2021), particularly on internet access/technological resources was amplified for English Learners (ELs) and families already marginalized by systemic discrimination and social injustices. As schools incorporate more technology instruction, it is inevitable to integrate Latinx households in building the knowledge required for their children’s educational success. Research stems from a five-year study to improve the education of ELs by increasing the engagement of parents through family technology events. This partnership improved parents’ use of technology and dispelled deficit-oriented believes about Latinx families. Project dismantled the ideological orientation of Latinx stereotypes for parents of ELs and served as a unifying element in cultivating community-school relations.
