Exploring the Backstage Effect: The Influence of Teachers' Extracurricular Time Input on Teaching Quality

This study explores the influence of teacher's extracurricular time input on teaching quality. Based on the data of TALIS 2018, we constructed a fixed effect model and found that: First, teachers from different countries take an average of 26.5 hours per week for extracurricular work. Second, there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between teacher's extracurricular time input and teaching quality. But different types of extracurricular time have different effects, teaching and preparation time, professional development time are all in a positive linear relationship with teaching quality, while administration and management time is in an inverted U-shaped relationship with teaching quality. Third, teaching experience plays a negative moderating role in the influence of extracurricular time input on teaching quality.
