Feminist Schoolwork: Attitudes Toward a Feminist Teacher Education

Thu, April 21, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This project examines the experiences of feminist teachers in U.S. schools using life narrative interviews. It theorizes feminist schoolwork as a way for teachers to teach dangerously; that is, teach against heteropatriarchy and white supremacy. This project asks the following questions: How can we engage in affirmative sabotage? How can we rethink teacher education so teachers are prepared to enact feminist schoolwork? This project places the voices and experiences of feminist teachers at the center of narratives about schooling and positions them as creators of feminist theories and pedagogies through their work in classrooms.
