Music Education Leadership in Times of Crisis: Governance at the Intersection of Structural and Personal Policy

Abstract

Situating itself within larger—and now acute—social and cultural demands placed by a need to engage in the diversification and decolonization of educational settings, this presentation submission explores avenues through which music education professionals from diverse labor centers working in three contexts—schools, universities, and community or non-for-profit organizations—have enacted organizational, staffing and curricular policy actions that forego or uphold ‘conveyor belt’ approaches to organizational thinking and practice change (Stone, 1988/2011). Specifically, the presentation will explore areas connected to professional preparation and engagement with diversity, pedagogical innovation, and curricular relevance.
