An Intersectional Approach to Understanding Mistreatment and Discrimination Among Diverse Physician Assistant Students

Abstract

Using an intersectional approach, this quantitative national study expands graduate mistreatment studies to include Physician Assistant (PA) students. We examined 2,716 survey responses from 171 PA educational programs across the United States to investigate variations of student mistreatment among graduating students of different demographic backgrounds. This study found that underreprepresented minority, male, and LGBTQ students disproportionately experienced mistreatment while enrolled in graduate-level PA training.
