This study aims to investigate how the levels of bodily engagement in the mechanic of a digital game affect mental rotation training. A mental rotation training game with three different interaction modes (keyboard, touchpad, and augmented reality) is developed for the purpose of this study. The findings indicate that the participants who played the versions of the game with higher levels of bodily engagement performed better in the gameplay. However, only the participants who played the augmented reality version of the game experienced significant improvements in their mental rotation ability. This study has significant implications on the potential of using embodied game-based training to improve mental rotation ability.
