Abstract

Collective approaches to educational changemaking have been undertaken in a wide variety of national and international contexts. And yet, we still have much to learn about how these initiatives work. This mixed methods case study of an arts education collective impact initiative draws upon sociomaterial theories of networks to analyze partnership structures over time and the stories of the work that pattern network dynamics. We provide an empirical and theory-linked account of (1) challenges in partnership, (2) characteristics of partnership relevant to how partners grapple with challenges, and (3) a native typology of community-school arts partnership. This typology can inform conceptually and practically tractable accounts of partnership for further research on and design for collective changemaking.
