International Student Agency: An Underutilized Perspective

Thu, April 21, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-International Studies Virtual Roundtable Session Room

Abstract

International students have gone through a variety of experiences in the past two years and counting. They have had their college experiences challenged, blocked, and threatened due to the pandemic and other external forces outside of their control. However, what we know little of is the resistance and agency they showed to navigate the variety of challenges they faced in U.S. higher education. This proposal aims to highlight why this may occur and shed light on how International student agency, an unexplored phenomenon, is illustrated by students in U.S. colleges and universities.
