Building on a 2021 AERA Division A panel session seeking to integrate LGBTQIA+ perspectives into the educational leadership field, this paper explores how queer theories might be taken up by critical and social justice educational leadership researchers working across a spectrum of theoretical frameworks and methodologies. Based on a relevancy review of literature, the paper presents a sample of exemplars demonstrating how some education researchers have engaged with queer theories across a range of methodologies. Three selected exemplars are highlighted, addressing postrepresentational ethnography, queer of color analysis, and critical quantitative research. Analysis examines how queer theories work with familiar methodologies to make them unfamiliar, reworking method to alter normalized conventions of knowledge production to pursue a politics of social transformation.
