This study examines my experiences as a racialized female immigrant Assistant Professor in a US Midwestern university during Trump administration, to draw the reader’s attention to the horrific and harmful implications of systemic racism in our society. Using a self-study methodology and drawing on Freire’s work as well as on critical race theory, this paper demonstrates how systemic racism impedes me as a post-secondary faculty from teaching about systemic inequities, even though the location of teaching this content has often been identified as a racist environment that is unfriendly toward immigrants and chooses not to address racism. The main objective is to demonstrate the saliency and complex depth of systemic racism seen in four critical incidents presented.
