This paper reports the findings from a systematic review and gap analysis of research on English learner (EL) reclassification in the United States. Using the results of a systematic review of academic and grey literature on time to and effects of reclassification, we conduct a descriptive gap analysis to highlight key areas of representation, underrepresentation, or absence in research that has been conducted to date on these topics. The summary provides specific, targeted guidance both for fellow researchers and for policymakers on the strength and breadth of the research base.
