Disrupting White Supremacy: A Systematic Literature Review on Multiraciality in Higher Education

Abstract

Scholarship on multiraciality has increased to examine the experiences of multiracial populations within higher education settings related to student development (Renn, 2004), racial microaggressions (Harris, 2017; Kellogg, & Liddell, 2012; Museus et al., 2016) and monoracism, a form of oppression based on not fitting into one category (Johnston & Nadal, 2010). The purpose of this systematic literature review is to understand how higher education scholars consider the topic of multiraciality and bridge this subject matter towards the efforts of exposing and disrupting white supremacy. The main research question guiding this investigation includes: How do higher education researchers studying multiraciality conceptualize multiraciality as a means towards disrupting white supremacy?
