High-Risk Drinking: Understanding the Context of Students at Risk

Heavy alcohol consumption is a wide-spread issue on college campuses (Wechsler et al., 1998; Center for Science in the Public Interest, 2013). High-risk drinking is the consumption of four greater drinks for women or five or greater drinks for men at least once in two weeks (Weschler et al., 2000). This paper utilizes a multi-level socio-cognitive approach to understanding the factors which predict high-risk drinking. Specifically, this paper seeks to understand how individual demographic characteristics and behaviors interact with the university context and background to predict drinking behavior.
