Often migratory students are unable to attend summer enrichment activities due to their family’s mobile lifestyle. Migratory students are children of migratory agricultural workers whose family migrate, following the seasonal harvests. A virtual summer academy for migratory students was created to expose students to STEAM, build confidence, critical thinking skills, and motivate priority for service migratory students to excel in school and beyond. The aim of the activity was to show migratory students how they can apply the engineering design process to solve a community need and through this process come to see themselves as active contributors to the betterment of their lives. This proposal reports on preliminary findings from pre-and-post surveys following the virtual culturally relevant engineering design activity.
