Abstract

This manuscript seeks to explore how mentorship may offer a way for women in higher education to overcome the challenges and obstacles that hinder their path to leadership and professional success. Mentorship, in its various forms such as formal or informal mentoring, peer mentoring, co-mentoring or sponsorship, can offer skills and tactics to assist women in overcoming gender stereotypes and networking to be ready for opportunities when they arise. This manuscript also offers suggestions regarding future research and policy and practice changes that may ensure greater gender equity in the Academy.
