Scholarship about the education doctorate (EdD) has focused on the role of research in program preparation with some researchers suggesting that EdD programs need to prepare students to understand research methods while others recommending training that better connects research to practice. This scholarly-practitioner model challenges students to identify specific issues in practice, develop research-based solutions, and disseminate results to constituents and stakeholders. To meet these objectives, however, EdD programs may need a clearer understanding of what applying and using research entails. As such, the purpose of this paper is to understand how graduates from four EdD programs bridge research to practice in decision-making and problem-solving practices.
