Critical Mixed Methods: Re(imagining) Research as a Tool for Equity and Liberation

Mon, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Mixed Methods Research Virtual Paper Session Room

Abstract

It is imperative to re(imagine) research as a tool for emancipation as we attempt to dismantle, redesign, and reconstruct systems of oppression in the 21st century. Researchers should consider incorporating constructs, lenses, and research approaches into their research process which have been previously confined to critical race scholars. Critical Mixed Methods Research is a complementary methodological framework to mixed methods research promoting critical inquiry and reflection in every step of the research process. This paper provides a detailed overview of every phase, to be used by any level researcher, to incorporate criticality into their research from examining their own research identity/positionality to the disseminating/reporting of findings that lead to social action and justice.
