Measuring Climate and the Institutionalization of Equity and Fairness Initiatives in Postsecondary Education

Abstract

Diversity, equity, and inclusion issues dominate conversations nationally and on college campuses. In this paper, we provide a literature review and the development of an assessment of institutional response to initiatives in higher education with regard to issues of diversity equity, and inclusion on campuses. The assessment was reviewed by experts at multiple higher education institutions and is being piloted by 50+ assessment experts at higher education institutions. The results are an assessment tool, Self-Evaluation of Post-Secondary Institutionalization of Equity and Fairness, that allows institutions to examine the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives on their campuses.
