This autoethnographic piece showcases a muralization project carried out with pre-service student teachers of a language teacher education program at a public university. It seeks to challenge the written academic text as the only form of literacy in the academy; the verbocentrism in communication; and the teacher as the possessor/conveyor of the episteme and techne in the classroom. The project follows a Critical Action Research design, articulating a feminist decolonial framework. Findings point that the mural, as a multimodal symbolic public chronotope/text, challenges the literacy practices premised on writing and mobilizes alternative hypotheses about academic reading. This project recast foreign language teacher education away from anthropocentric views, undermining the institutions and cultural production practices that constitute the field.
