Fri, April 22, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Special and Inclusive Education Research Virtual Paper Session Room

Abstract

Special educators bring skills that apply directly to teacher leadership but are often overlooked for these positions. Inclusion of these special educators directly impact the use of inclusive policies and practices within schools. Findings from a qualitative interview study with special educators will be shared. In total, forty-five special educators from across the career span shared their experiences and perceptions of teacher leadership. Major themes from the study will be shared, including potential ways to address barriers, and suggestions for effective supports to develop teacher leadership.
