An Examination of the Dimensionality and Validity of a STEM Peer Mentoring Competency Scale for Women

This study examined the dimensionality, validity, and reliability of a scale created to measure eer mentoring competencies of women STEM peer mentors and mentees. In this study, the STEM Peer Mentoring Scale was developed, refined, and tested with over 500 STEM women students. Evidence from both an exploratory factor analysis and internal consistency analysis demonstrated that bot forms of the scale have both validity and reliability. The final mentor scales was found to have ten dimensions and the final mentee scale was found to have eleven dimensions. The scale, it’s development, and potential uses to promote effective STEM peer mentoring relationships among women will be discussed.
