The equitable integration of computer science into our schools must be guided by a combination of knowledge from research and practice. But most computer science (CS) education efforts are not informed by research. This paper describes lessons learned from two research-practice partnerships. The findings show that research is used by practitioners in instrumental, conceptual, and tactical ways, and that the process of research use also contributes to the generation of higher quality research. Specific examples of how research use can support bringing computer science to all students are: show data that is disaggregated by demographic group to refine communication and marketing strategies and share data widely to get more buy-in and support for teachers.
