Affective Domain Development in Mathematics Education (ADD ME) is a research and professional learning program that aims to support and measure the impact of explicit focus on affective development in mathematics teaching. This paper provides background on the ADD-ME project and presents results from a Value System Integration tool used to collect foundational data on student values and integration of mathematics into their personal value systems. We discuss the collection and analysis of student values, the weights assigned to these values, and students’ perceptions of the connection between these values and the mathematics they learn in school. Results help us to better understand the need for affective development in mathematics and support next steps for both research and professional learning.
