Recent research in spatial cognition has demonstrated that spatial thinking is both an essential process in student success in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) subjects (Uttal & Cohen, 2012; Uttal, Miller, Newcombe, 2013) and overall success in the workforce (Kell & Lubinski, 2013). Spatial thinking skill is seen as a crosscutting domain that traverses and overlaps several intellectual fields of inquiry (Ness & Farenga, 2016; Newcombe, Uttal, & Sauter, 2013). This paper is examines the Spatial Architectural Coding (SPARC) System (formerly SPAGAR). Researchers can employ SPARC to develop knowledge concerning young children’s spatial development in particular domains. Practitioners will have the opportunity to implement SPARC in understanding their young students’ propensities in emergent STEAM disciplines.
