Abstract

Teachers’ well-being has been increasingly recognised as an important policy lever to reduce attrition and maximize quality teaching. By using TALIS 2018 data, the paper seeks to be a contribution to the research on teachers’ well-being. In particular, the research will dwell into teachers’ stress levels, sources and variation across individual and school characteristics from 48 educational systems across the world. It will also explore to what extent teachers’ stress and well-being is related to their intention to remain in the profession. An international comparative perspective allows to explore how widespread or system-specific are certain links between working conditions and stress. Finally, the research provides valuable insights for target policy responses to improve teachers’ well-being.
