Neuroeducation for Social Justice: Integrating Culturally Relevant Pedagogy and Neuroeducation Instructional Practices

Abstract

All students deserve wholistic, culturally relevant learning experiences. These experiences may be catalyzed by innovative integration of two instructional models: culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) and neuroeducation instructional practices (NEIP). To date, no literature has proposed this combination of practices. This paper puts forth a new conceptual framework and practices model for instruction that will promote social justice for diverse student populations through the integration of CRP and NEIP. Built into this model are both the personal development of the teacher’s cultural competence and the growth of these integrated practices. The theoretical underpinnings of this model are delineated, and integrated culturally relevant practices are shared through the six components of NEIP.
