Online Teaching and Learning Experiences During COVID-19: Opportunities and Challenges (Poster 3)

Abstract

With the advent of COVID-19 and the closure of college campuses, traditional classroom teaching was shifted to emergent remote teaching (ERT). The education sector has been profoundly altered by the unprecedented circumstance. This article systematically reviews the most recent research on lecturers’ and learners’ experiences in ERT in the setting of higher education and rethinks online education in terms of emerging opportunities and challenges. The findings reveal that lecturers and students had a mixed experience with ERT and that the potential for online education backed by improved infrastructure, qualified lecturers, modern digital technologies, and advances in research would be huge. Recommendations for making online teaching and learning more efficient, effective, and inclusive are also put forward.
