Intraprofessional Curriculum Mapping Between a Dental and Dental Allied Health Program: A Mixed-Methods Survey

Abstract

In health professions education programs such as dentistry and dental hygiene, undertaking an organized, evidence-based collaborative approach to curriculum mapping requires broad understanding of required and relevant competencies, educational content integration, and scaffolded sequencing within and across curricula. Curriculum mapping, an established method for indexing educational curricula, can facilitate accurate tracking of professional programs’ objectives and encourage intraprofessional faculty collaboration. This exploratory study of dental and dental allied health faculty’s perceptions of curriculum mapping in the context of implementing an institutional online curriculum mapping process between a dental and dental hygiene allied health program, contributes professional knowledge for administrators interested in curriculum management processes to facilitate intraprofessional education collaborations between health professions programs.
