How Actors Throughout the Network of Science Education Would Change Their State Systems

Abstract

How can educators negotiate alignment to support a coherent, equity-centered vision of
science education? This study uses a survey methodology to elicit ideas from science educators with a variety of professional roles regarding how they would change their systems to support more equitable, Framework-inspired science instruction. A total of 589 science educators from 33 states and territories completed the survey, for a response rate of 67%. Responses suggest that coherence, interdisciplinary learning, and community science connections matter to a range of science leaders. Respondents also commonly named a desire for more and coherent resources. These findings can help researchers and practitioners better assess priorities as they work with people from a variety of professional positions toward shared goals.
