School districts have become creative in finding ways to strengthen school and Latinx student relationships, particularly as students were facing increasing pressures exacted at their communities via the Trump administration's anti-Latinx rhetoric. A 2018 study analyzing Latinx youth’s reactions to the Trump administration’s immigration attacks, researchers found that Latinx youth responded through increased civic engagement. The goal of this presentation is to offer results from a qualitative investigation that examined the following: 1) the development of a Midwestern urban Latinx high school and university partnership c; 2) the unique barriers Latinx youth and their families identified given the recent rise in hate crime in the area, and 3) the effectiveness of YPAR in developing cross-age community-school support systems.
