Review of an Online Internship in Educational Evaluation for Preservice Teacher Education Students

Mon, April 25, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This paper is a summary of the structure, activities, and outcomes of a month-long online internship in educational evaluation that was conducted over Zoom during Summer 2020, when students were unable to work or participate in clinical field experiences because of restrictions related to COVID-19. This internship and its outcomes provide a valuable model for other teacher educators looking to provide high yield low cost practical experiences to pre-service elementary education students. More research is needed on the degree to which these experiences establish a lasting connection between students and the field of elementary education, and more funding and institutional support are needed to broaden access to these kinds of programs.
