Aloha ʻĀina Theory and Hawaiian Guerilla Peadagogy and Praxis

Abstract

This paper is as a warning that native scholars are engaged in an academic war of attrition that can only be won by embracing the collective knowledge of Hawaiian people within and outside the academy; an approach that is sovereignty and liberation driven, guerilla in practice and transformative in its expectations and outcomes.

The paper hopes to provide a more responsive analysis to the advantages and limitations of the Hawaiian academic elite through the development of a community driven pedagogy motivated by sovereignty, liberation and activism; approaches that I call Aloha ʻĀina Theory and Hawaiian Guerilla Pedagogy.
