School Stability and Effectiveness Across Different Subjects: The Case of Longitudinal Analysis in Russia

Abstract

School effectiveness studies address a wide variety of aspects of school work — highlighting these schools and their key characteristics, strategies, correlates of effective schooling, stability and consistency of school effects on results, stability across subject areas. In our work, we want to analyze how stable and effective Russian schools are across subjects for fiveyears. We assume that the obtained data may be useful for the international society. In a base two-level model results in Russian were explained by the school, and not variation in time, for almost 65% percent. For the math ICC indicator in the same model was lower – 40%. The issue of unstable math results at schools in comparison with language exam could be a sign of systematic problem.
