Mon, April 25, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), World Educational Research Association Virtual Meeting Rooms, WERA Virtual Meeting Room 2

Abstract

Digital technologies have become pervasive in children’s everyday lives. A growing number of studies have focused on the ways that young children between age 0-5 play with their home digital meaning making practices in many countries. Currently, there is a need for more studies exploring culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) children’s home literacy practices with digital tools and artifacts in Canadian context. In this paper, I will explore Canadian young k-grade 3 CLD children’s home digital literacy and their parents’ perspectives towards their children’s usage of digital devices at home. With more knowledge on CLD children’s home literacy practices, this research would be valuable for educators to help them support newcomer children in Canadian schools.
