Epistemic Lending and De-Westernization of Knowledge Space, Understanding, and Generation in Southern Countries

Thu, April 21, 11:30am to 1:00pm PDT (11:30am to 1:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Floor: Upper Level, Room 8

Abstract

Through epistemic lending of existing western knowledge without imposing conditions on its knowledge space and understanding, southern researchers may be able to extend and challenge western understanding of southern issues. It will help create meaningful coalitions between southern and western knowledge spaces and provide visibility to southern countries' issues without imposing western reflections on these issues. The article emphasizes the need for new modes of engagement to dewesternize and decolonize the casual narratives that the west holds and imposes on the south. It can only occur if southern researchers are provided unbounded knowledge space and equality to deconstruct western assumptions and ontological interpretations
