This paper explores to what extent people’s choice of field of study in higher education is associated with their perceptions of socioeconomic mobility. Data came from the Inter-Generational Social Mobility Module of the National Household Survey, which was carried out by Mexico’s National Institute for Statistics, Geography and Computing (Spanish acronym: INEGI) in 2016. The methodological approach used for conducting this research is quantitative. To answer the main research question a binomial logistic regression analysis is estimated. It is worth stressing that, while no research has been found into the effects of skin colour on people’s perceptions of socioeconomic mobility in Mexico, it is expected that this investigation will help to fill this gap.
