Calling a Code: Nursing Students' Application of the Code of Ethics to Nursing Practice

Abstract

This paper examined nursing students’ awareness of the application of cultural and ethical principles in the care of patients.
Patients expect high quality compassionate nursing care administered with an understanding of their overall needs.
Theorists have emphasized that this expectation requires an ethical approach to
patient care. Effective patient care and patient satisfaction can be achieved through holistic
nursing care. To render such care, nurses must employ practice framed with ethical principles while
embracing diversity. The purpose of this study was to examine nursing students ‘ethical
principles, based on the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
