Gradients-in-Relation: Distance as Continuous Variations in Artography

Sat, April 23, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Floor: North Building, Lobby Level, Presidio 1 & 2

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

With the AERA theme of cultivating equitable education systems for the 21st Century, the objective of our symposium is to demonstrate how artist-educators perform a vital pedagogic role in the communities we serve, activating conversations to respectfully engage in current issues that have worldwide implications: pandemic response-ability and consciousness raising about diverse beliefs, behaviors, cultures and systems. Building on our ongoing international research partnership on walking artographically, panelists share visual, poetic and performance pandemic-inspired provocations. These provocations demonstrate how ‘art is advocacy-in-action’ as a medium of communication and as a mechanism to critically create transnational dialogues across, with and between peoples and places. Our inquiry embraces gradient-in-relation as difference, inclusion and equity, to find productive ways to overcome divisiveness.
