Pursuing Equitable Educational Systems: Experiences and Insights of Women Navigating

Sat, April 23, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), Manchester Grand Hyatt, Floor: 2nd Level, Seaport Tower, Seaport Ballroom C

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium illustrates how a group of women with different experiences in academia examine intercultural mentorship to construct knowledge regarding our various relationships and roles within a co-mentorship network. The insights gained from research across these five papers bring new concepts and languages to describe and add to the scholarship on womens’ ways of mentoring in different academic roles. The collective findings suggest that women in academia benefit from the assets of their intercultural views and perspectives on their relationships within their co-mentoring groups, and their ability to thrive within the spaces where equity in an educational system shifts from an idealized aspiration to normalized practices.
