Abstract

Academic motivation is an important outcome of schooling and predictor of achievement. Therefore, it has been researched extensively. This large amount of research needs to be systematically integrated to understand what we know and still need to learn regarding academic motivation. This symposium attempts to do just that, providing one of the most comprehensive looks to date on academic motivation and what it relates to. Each paper utilizes the latest meta-analytic research techniques to show how key aspects of motivation differ for students with different characteristics and backgrounds. Presenters also discuss benefits and limitations of different meta-analytical approaches, which help advance the field methodologically. They also discuss how their findings can inform strategies to foster positive academic motivation.
