Unpacking Situated Perspectives on Identity, Engagement, and Motivation: Implications for Designing Equitable Learning Environments

Sat, April 23, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Floor: North Building, Lobby Level, Torrey Pines 2

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium includes four papers that, together, examine the constructs of motivation, engagement, and identity. The panel of researchers will introduce the constructs explored in their work and the utility or challenges of using those constructs. In doing so, presenters will discuss the contribution of their research on the design of learning environments. Across papers we seek to highlight how the different learner-focused constructs, in conversation, can support more equitable design.
