Educational Foundations: A Book Symposium

Sat, April 23, 2:30 to 4:00pm PDT (2:30 to 4:00pm PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Philosophical Studies in Education Virtual Paper Session Room

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The scope and significance of educational foundations remains an abiding topic of philosophical interest and practical concern in education. The objective of the session is to bring together international scholars to stimulate exchange about the meaning of educational foundations and their role in educational scholarship, policy, professional practice, and teacher education. This symposium is based on a forthcoming book series, in which the same sequence of educational topics will be taken up through the lens of six disciplines: Philosophy, Sociology, Policy Studies, History, Economics, and Law. The series editors, who are philosophers of education, will discuss the selection of these disciplines, and five of the volume editors will discuss their field’s approach to educational foundations.
