Global Critical Literacies as the Key to Equitable Education: A Transnational Analysis

Abstract

This working group roundtable explores how scholars around the world are conceptualizing, remixing, and transforming critical literacies as a veritable global issue. Paper authors bring together multiple critical epistemologies as a way to revisit the traditional frameworks that have historically overlooked viewpoints from otherwise marginalized regions. At a time when the search for equitable education is paramount for the future of our societies, we are committed to bringing conversations about critical literacies to the forefront as a vibrant alternative to transform education. As oppressive discourses, institutions, and forces are increasingly transnational, and as socioeconomic injustices grow and inequities widen, research and organizing that keeps equity at its center in order to counter oppression within, across, and beyond national boundaries.
