We Don't Need No More Trouble: Reimagining the Educational System Using Perspectives of Black Teachers

Abstract

As Black educators who love their Black students, schools, and communities, we are frontline soldiers in a long-standing “war” against Blackness, criticality, and education. In this session, we utilize an Afrofuturistic framework to reimagine our roles in schools, communities, and overall models for our students. We hope that in sharing the stories of Black educators depicted not only in the literature but also through uplifting personal vignettes and audience participation, more educators will recognize as a village, we can change the tide of Anti-Blackness in the curriculum, raise students criticality, and foster the loving connections necessary to create a future where students leave our classrooms with their humanity intact.
